As a geriatric CNA I saw this played out over and over again, usually until the patient died of being cured. For every action an equal and opposite reaction would suffice for an analogy. Any medicinal chemical introduced into a biological system is going to cause an imbalance somewhere along the line. It is a ping pong game until the ball eventually flies off the table. At the tail end of my CNA career, I carved out a niche weaning my patients off prescribed drugs with the permission of their families. I would present them with my findings from research on the internet. I could usually find some antagonistic drug interaction somewhere on the chart to scare the patient and family. Doctors in these geriatric skilled nursing facilities threw around pills fairly loosely. There is big money in over medicating people, and it is built into the system. Never forget that healthcare is a business at the end of the day.
