The reason macro solutions usually lead to horrible fuck-ups, speeches from politicians are empty rhetoric, and political memes are just hot air blowing across a virtual desert. The majority of things you can have a positive effect on are usually with a 6 ft. radius of wherever you are and will be the result a very specific action. The opposite of that would be virtue signaling on Facebook, explaining to everyone how good you are. The best that might produce is a 'hugging heart' emoticon, the virtual version of a reach around from another virtually virtuous soul...

  I sold real estate in the city with the largest concentration of Arabs in the USA. Many of the old-time agents would not work with them. Arabs drove a hard bargain. I was forced to, as I was a newcomer to the city and had no 'sphere of influence', as they like to say in real estate. I actually melded great with their style of business, made many connections, and did very well courting them. They had money, were smart, and came to the party ready to deal.  Hard to fathom that Alan Watts died 50 years ago today. No one was better at articulating Eastern philosophy and religion for Western sensibilities than Watts. Add to that a God given voice and the driest of humor, and you had a winning combination. The irony was Watts lifestyle was about as far from what he was an expert on as one could get. To me that was really his charm. He did not have that irritating 'emptier than thou' vibe that so many of the white West Coast hippie Buddhists had. I can't think of any other single person who was more important in bridging beatnik and hippie culture either. He was always there in the background through the 50's and 60's in the SF Bay Area. My girlfriend at the time and I saw Watts speak at UCSC in 1970. He was truly wonderful. Some UCSC students were giving him some shit for something he said that wasn't politically correct.
